MCMLVIII - a very very long time ago

There - it's just gone midnight. Today (friday) is my 50th birthday. It's just starting to hit me. I'm 50 today. 50 is extremely old. Life is pretty well half over!

I do occasionally wake up in the morning and ask myself whether I'm really as old as all that. I shake my head for a moment and wonder is there's been a mistake. I know where the years have gone - I was there when they went, but it seemed like it was just yesterday that I was turning 30 (and feeling old then)

Other people born in 1958

Andie MacDowell
Holly Hunter
Jamie Lee Curtis
Kate Bush (yeah, okay - she's old!)
Madonna
Michelle Pfeiffer
Sharon Stone
Tim Burton
Viggo Mortensen

Looking at it this way, of course, 50 is not that old. These folks aren't old. These people are more or less just like me - plus botox and regular time in the gym, singing lessons, agents to get them gigs and - therapy.

I guess turning 50 is better than the alternative.

Now I'll head off. It's past my bedtime.

Happy Birthday, Rabbit. I've got a few more turns on the odometer than you do, but I'm okay...

As our Orthodox friends might say, Mnogaya Lyeta!

Just turned 50 myself on 2/14, and I love Viggo, and we are strong! Do you still feel what, 18? 25? 30? if all feels the same, doesn't it?

Hi there, I just randomly found your post here and thought I should reply. I just had my birthday yesterday (today here for another hour). Also, you share a birthday with Albert Einstein, who was also born on March 14th. And I believe Billy Crystal's birthday is the 15th and he's turning 60! He looks pretty young for a 60-year-old. So, I suppose age is in our own mind - you are as young as you think you are! Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday! I have ten years or so on you and I treasure every one. It beats the alternative, does it not?

Dearest Rabbit,

Many happy returns! And look upon it this way too: a year older, a year wiser...

Well, my dear Father, join the club. I beat you by precisely a month. PF (I think you'll recognise the initials)

Ah yes - PF - I thought of you and two or three other chums from days gone past who are at this moment flexing their muscles in the bathroom and saying 'fine - I look like one of the gods of the greeks or romans - as long as it's the aging bacchus!'
